Cathy Chemi. Cathy joined the Harry James Orchestra in the late 1960's and gained musical experience that covered the United States and Europe with special performances at the Hollywood Palladium and the Royal Festival Hall in London. Along with the Harry James Orchestra and husband-trumpeter, Skip Stine, Cathy recorded a live album that has recently been reissued on a 2 disc CD called HARRY JAMES-LIVE AT CLEARWATER, FLORIDA.
Ms. Chemi has been a frequent guest at the Central Pennsylvania Jazz Festivals and a featured performer with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. She also conducts music clinics at high schools and colleges in Central Pennsylvania, as well as performing with big bands throughout the midstate area. Cathy has been a guest on WITF's MY FAVORITE THINGS and DESERT ISLAND DISCS. She has appeared recently with the American Swing Orchestra's TRIBUTE TO BENNY GOODMAN, and has just released a solo CD YOU AND I with pianist Steve Rudolph and bassist Paul Langosch.
SKIP STINE is a graduate of the United States Naval School of Music. In the 1960's, he played with numerous bands throughout the United States, Canada and Europe including Si Zenter, Buddy Morrow and the Sammy Spear Orchestra for the Jackie Gleason Show. Also, during this time he worked for such artists as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Peggy Lee and Johnny Mathis.
In the late 1960's, Skip joined the Harry James Orchestra traveling throughout the United States and Europe appearing with them on numerous TV and recording dates. After a stint at the famed Harrah's Hotel in Reno, Nevada, Skip returned to Central Pennsylvania to continue his musical career working with the orchestra at the Hershey Theatre, Hersheypark Arena and playing with the area big bands and combos as a free lance musician.
Recently, Cathy and Skip brought their 17 piece Big Band to the American Music Theatre (Lancaster) and the Hersheypark Amphitheater (Hershey) in a concert tribute to the Swing/Big Band Era...with a special segment dedicated to their former boss and friend, HARRY JAMES. They are frequent guests at concert venues on the east coast with special emphasis on their uniquely personal experiences of their association with THE HARRY JAMES ORCHESTRA |
